What started
in the seventies is even more true today. “Built to last” no longer seems to
make any sense. Technology moves so fast that something that has been out
for only a couple of years has technology so outdated that you can get much
better quality for the same price. This is not a treatise on good or bad of
our consumer society, just an observation. Basically, the newer the better.
There are some things where the latest technology just makes sense.
I am riding a different bike this year than the one I used to ride the GIT
in 2006. I graduated from a $50 garage sale bike to a "Giant Iguana" and there are some nice
features. The shifter is nicer for example. Extra shocks seem to reduce
strain. The comfy seat is "to die for."
